Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation — advising on employment issues associated with the relocation of the agency and its staff from Canberra to Wagga Wagga, including drafting and interpreting employment contracts for staff

Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade — advising on the refresh of the SMARTRAVELER trade mark, options for trade mark and brand protection and recovery of ‘smartraveller’ domain names registered by third parties

Department of Health — advice to the Department about significant privacy considerations associated with Australia’s new digital health records system. Advice included mapping information flows and carrying out privacy impact assessments, advising on multiple privacy issues including the design of legislation and opt-out registration arrangements, advising on trans-border data flows and mandatory data breach reporting, and assisting the Department to develop criminal and civil penalty regimes for privacy breaches under the new legislation

Department of Veterans’ Affairs — recovery of monies overpaid to veterans and dependants, and to service providers

Department of Education and Training — ongoing representation of the Department as respondent in relation to a large range of applications to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT), including applications by individuals seeking review of decisions made by higher education providers under the Higher Education Support Act 2003

Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) — provided a secondee for three months, which included advising on ASADA’s Results Management Process for potential breaches of Australia’s anti-doping rules and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Code, and drafting a MoU between ASADA and the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service

Department of Health — numerous statutory interpretation advises as part of three long-term secondments developing new legislation for Australia’s digital health records system and Healthcare Identifiers program. Preparing drafting instructions for over 10 pieces of primary and subordinate legislation

Department of Industry, Innovation and Science — advice on managing funding agreements where funded projects not completed
