Hugh’s areas of expertise are:
-
Employment and workplace relations law
-
Corporations law and corporate governance
-
Commercial law and contracting
Hugh’s significant achievements with the firm include:
-
Advising Carers Australia on compliance with grant conditions in relation to the establishment of a website providing support and services to young carers. This involved negotiating contractual arrangements with the state-based network of carer organisations throughout Australia for the delivery of a national service.
-
Assisting the University of Canberra in preparing funding applications for the development of university campuses in regional locations such as Cooma and Goulburn.
-
Advising a not-for-profit industry accreditation body in resolving a complex constitutional and corporate governance matter. This involved disruptive and damaging board conduct and ended with a number of board members expelled as members for non-compliance with their obligations under the constitution and as directors.
-
Providing advice to a Commonwealth Government authority in managing a code of conduct complaint regarding a senior executive, which led to a mediated settlement and resignation. The organisation’s discrimination policies and procedures were subsequently revised with Hugh’s help.
-
Urgently preparing and negotiating all of the executive contracts for the CEO and senior management team at NBN Co Ltd—work which was required to be undertaken with the utmost expedience and confidentiality.
-
Advising on a broad range of matters including senior executive appointments, personnel issues and commercial contractual arrangements for a Commonwealth Government authority. Hugh provided advice on the organisation’s collective agreement under WorkChoices legislation as well as under more recent agreements associated with the Fair Work Act.
