Meyer Vandenberg is dedicated to being a leader in corporate environmental responsibility.  We acknowledge that sustainability requires an effort from all people and industries and are continually looking for ways in which we can reduce wastage, re-use and recycle.  We are Silver-rated members of the “Green Biz Check” environmental audit program, actively participate in the ACT Government’s “Office Smart” program and have a dedicated volunteer “MVironment” team who co-ordinate all our initiatives.

Recycling

Our firm has systems in place for the recycling of paper, cardboard, plastics, cans, glass, batteries, printer cartridges, mobile phones, and even organic waste such as food scraps.

Resources

We minimise our resource consumption by providing simple initiatives such as purchasing electrical appliances with a minimum 4 star energy rating, switching off lights and equipment when not in use, using efficient bulbs, and having blinds to keep out the heat in summer (reducing the need for air-conditioning).  Dishwashers are water-efficient and run only when full, documents are emailed rather than faxed, and printing is double-sided wherever possible.

Staff Commitment

On-going training is provided to all our staff to ensure the success of our environmental initiatives.  To supplement this, all recycling points, light switches and water sources are labelled with tips to reduce waste.

Our “MVironment” team regularly use the firm intranet to communicate new ways to reduce our “carbon footprint”, even when out of the office.  Many of our staff walk or cycle to work, and catch public transport where they can.  Staff regularly identify opportunities to improve on our environmental practices, and new initiatives are introduced on a regular basis.
